What it is

The Problem In 2024, over $2.2 billion was lost to DeFi exploits even from protocols considered "safe." Users face three unsolved issues simultaneously: existing security tools only send notifications (not protection), there's no automated portfolio diversification for retail DeFi users, and critical pre-exploit warning signs scattered across on-chain and off-chain data go undetected until it's too late.
What ShieldYield Is ShieldYield is a decentralized, AI-powered risk mitigation protocol that acts as an automated guardian for DeFi positions. Rather than alerting users after damage begins, it proactively protects funds through a 4-layer defense system:

  1. Smart Tranching — On deposit, AI auto-diversifies funds across Low, Medium, and High-risk protocol tiers, limiting single-protocol exposure from the start.
  2. On-Chain Monitoring — Every 5 minutes, the system scans pool health metrics: TVL velocity, whale concentration, admin wallet activity, and suspicious transaction patterns across multiple chains.
  3. Off-Chain Intelligence — AI evaluates GitHub commit frequency, governance proposals, audit statuses, team token vesting schedules, and social sentiment to catch warning signs days before they manifest on-chain.
  4. Automated Shield Execution — When a critical threat is validated through decentralized consensus, the protocol automatically withdraws funds and bridges them cross-chain to a safe haven — no manual intervention required.
    How It Works A user deposits USDC → AI allocates across risk-tiered pools → Chainlink CRE continuously monitors all positions using both on-chain reads and off-chain intelligence → AI calculates protocol risk scores verified by 21-node BFT consensus → if threat levels escalate, the system auto-rebalances or triggers emergency withdrawal via CCIP bridge. Every action and its reasoning is logged on-chain for full transparency.

How it Works

ShieldYield is built on Chainlink CRE (Chainlink Runtime Environment), utilizing all 8 available CRE services:

  • Cron Trigger schedules the Sentinel Scan every 5 minutes as a decentralized heartbeat.
  • EVM Read (multi-chain) trustlessly fetches TVL, collateral ratios, health factors, and admin wallet activity across Ethereum, Base, and Arbitrum.
  • Data Streams provide real-time asset prices, volatility data, and cross-DEX price deviation detection for flash loan indicators.
  • HTTP Client fetches off-chain intelligence — GitHub activity, audit databases, governance proposals, social sentiment, and news — through multiple independent node operators.
  • BFT Consensus ensures all 21 DON nodes independently verify each AI threat assessment before any action is taken, preventing false positives and single-point-of-failure manipulation.
  • CCIP enables emergency cross-chain bridging to the safest available network when a critical threat is confirmed.
  • On-chain Write executes safeguard actions: partial withdrawals, full emergency withdrawals, rebalancing, and circuit breakers.
  • x402 powers a future business model where verified threat intelligence feeds can be sold to other protocols.
    The smart contract layer consists of a ShieldVault contract integrated with Aave and Compound for low-risk tiers, with tranching logic and a RiskRegistry for on-chain risk state management. The AI risk scoring engine weighs Audit Score (30%), TVL Health (25%), Team Trust (15%), Code Risk (15%), and Community Signal (15%) to produce a 0–100 protocol risk score. The frontend is a real-time dashboard showing protocol health, threat alerts, tranching visualization, and shield action history.
