Who can participate?

Anyone from anywhere in the world can participate. However, participants that break the Rules or Code of Conduct may be expelled. External websites used as part of Block Magic may also have various country-specific limitations. You can find more information by reading the rules and regulations on Devpost, our project submission platform, once it’s live.

How much does it cost to attend?

There is no cost. Attendance is free for all participants.

How many people can be on a team?

1-5 participants per team.

What if I've never been to a hackathon or worked with Chainlink before?

No worries! It’s helpful to have some software engineering experience, but it’s not a requirement. We will also have talks, workshops, and mentors to help you with your project. This is a great place to learn about all things blockchain and smart contracts.

How will this event take place?

Block Magic is a virtual hackathon,  available to participants globally. Discussions and support for Block Magic participants take place on Discord, workshops are hosted on YouTube, and projects are submitted through Devpost.

When can I start working on my project?

As soon as the hackathon opens on April 29. To keep the playing field fair, we don’t allow teams to begin building prior to the start of the hackathon. If your project is an upgrade to an existing project, it must not have any onchain components.

My project is a collaboration with another participant, but I filled out the registration form on my own. Does my collaborator need to fill in the registration form too?

Each team member should register individually on the hackathon website and Devpost (once the page is live). You can add your team members in the “manage teammates” section when submitting your project on the Devpost hackathon page.

How do I make sure my project is eligible for hackathon prizes?

Projects that were not built at the hackathon are not eligible to receive a prize, except projects that did not have any onchain components beforehand. This includes projects that were built before the hackathon and projects that were submitted to past hackathons. We work closely with our partners and sponsors to filter out these projects.

Do we need to create a frontend or can we just use Remix for the demo? Are projects required to have a frontend?

Projects are not required to have a frontend. Remix is fine. However, projects with a frontend receive a bonus point.

Do we also need to host the website somewhere externally?

No, localhost is fine. All you need is a live demo.

I'm not able to record every feature of my project in a video shorter than five minutes. What should I do?

The video needs to be less than five minutes. We suggest you try to edit it down further.

My project is complete, but I don’t have a demo video—is it still valid?

No. We need a video, even if it’s just a recording of you talking.

Can we submit and modify the demo video link after submission?

Yes, if modified before the submission deadline (June 2).

Who owns the IP to the submitted projects?

The team behind each project holds the project IP.

If I win a prize, will I be required to provide personal information?

Yes. Please take note that we reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to withhold the distribution of prizes to recipients based on the results of Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures.
