Who can participate?

Anyone from anywhere in the world can participate. However, participants that break the Rules or don’t follow the Code of Conduct may be expelled.

External websites used in the Chainlink Hackathon may also have various country-specific limitations. You can find more information by reading the rules and regulations on Devpost, our project submission platform.

How do I make sure my project is eligible for hackathon prizes?

Projects that were not built at the hackathon are not eligible to receive a prize. This includes projects that were built before the hackathon and projects that were submitted to past hackathons. We work closely with our partners and sponsors to filter out these projects.

How much does it cost to attend?

Nothing, attendance is free.

How many people can be on a team?

1-5 people per team.

What if I've never been to a hackathon or worked with Chainlink before?

No worries! It’s helpful to have some software engineering experience, but it’s not a requirement. Projects often need designers, front-end engineers, project managers, and more. We will also have talks, workshops, and mentors to help you with your project. This is a great place to learn about all things blockchains and smart contracts.

When can I start working on my project?

As soon as the hackathon opens. To keep the playing field level, we don’t allow teams to begin building prior to the start of the hackathon. If your project is an upgrade to an existing project, please check with us beforehand.

Where will this event take place?

This event takes place online. The hackathon chat/support happens on Discord, workshops happen over YouTube, and projects are submitted through Devpost.

What is Chainlink?

Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently helps secure tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.

My project is a collaboration with another participant, but I filled out the registration form on my own. Does my collaborator need to fill in the registration form too?

Each team member should register individually on the hackathon website. You can add your team members in the "Manage Teammates" section when submitting your project on the Devpost hackathon page.

Do we need to create a frontend or can we just use Remix for the demo? Are projects required to have a frontend?

Projects are not required to have a frontend. Remix is fine.

Do we also need to host the website somewhere externally?

No, localhost is fine. All you need is a live demo.

I'm not able to record every feature of my project in a video shorter than five minutes. What should I do?

The video needs to be less than five minutes. We suggest you try to edit it down further.

My project is complete, but I don’t have a demo video—is it still valid?

No. We need a video, even if it’s just a recording of you talking.

Can we submit and modify the demo video link after submission?

Yes

Who owns the IP to the submitted projects?

The team behind each project holds the IP of their project.
